Docent lecture: Additive Manufacturing of Medications

The Department of Material Science and Engineering hereby invite all interested to a docentship lecture in subject of Nanotechnology and Functional Materials.

Lecturer: Dr Jonas Lindh

Title:  Additive manufacturing of medications

Date: Wednesday 27th May 2020 at 13.00

Location: Due to the corona situation it will only be possible to follow the lecture via Zoom.

Zoom participation:

Chairperson: Professor Maria Strömme

Representative of the Docentship Committee: Prof. Tomas Edvinsson

Abstract: Additive manufacturing, i.e. manufacturing via a layer-by-layer process, is being studied as an alternative or complement to traditional manufacturing in a number of different areas, including pharmaceutical manufacturing. Possible advantages of using additive manufacturing for production of pharmaceuticals include facile adjustment of dose and drug release rates as well as design to suite patients in a way which is not possible using traditional manufacturing techniques. Some of the additive manufacturing techniques are highly developed and one FDA approved medication is currently on the market whereas other techniques are still being developed.

In this lecture we will discuss techniques that are used in the additive manufacturing of medications and their applications, potential and limitations.

The lecture is an obligatory teaching test for those applying for admittance as docent and it should be possible for students and others with basic academic education in the relevant field to follow it. The lecture will last for 45 minutes and afterwards the audience may ask questions. The lecture will be given in Swedish.
